Janome Jem Gold 660 Review
Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH
One of the selling point of this sewing machine is its weight and the compact size. It weighs just around 12 pounds and you can easily lift it with one hand. Janome Jem Gold 660 comes with 12 built-in stitches including two stretch stitches, utility stitches and a 4 step buttonhole. The top drop-in bobbin and the automatic needle threader makes using this machine easy. I think Janome has designed this machine with a beginner in mind. There are not many features on this machine, they focused more on quality. It is a sturdy machine.
The accessory pack contains all the necessary accessories required by a beginner. It has a snap on presser feet. You cannot control the presser foot pressure though. The height lever can be adjusted to make space for thick fabrics. Janome Jem Gold 660 can stitch at a speed of 650 stitches per minute.
Threading Janome Jem Gold 660 is easy as the threading paths are well marked on the machine. You can select the stitches using the dial provided on the side of the machine. It is a 3/4 machine, so you cannot expect all the features of a full-size machine. The stitches come out nice and good looking. Stitches are straight and accurate. The machine is made of quality material I guess, it can take all the rough treatment from a sewing student.
The number of built-in stitches is the main limitation of this sewing machine. It has all basic stitches required by a beginner but a talented sewer will overgrow it quite fast. Stitch length and width control is limited.
- Most suitable for sewing classes
- Easy to use
- Limited number of built-in stitches
- Non adjustable presser foot pressure
Overall, if you are looking for portability, there is no better option than Janome Jem Gold 660. I am not saying that there is no better machine than this one. If you want to filter your search with portability as the top priority, don’t look further.
