Brother DZ1234 belongs to the Designio series of machines from Brother. This serger is designed for the designer in you. It has both three and four thread configuration. It is capable of sewing at a speed of 1300 stitches/minute. It is free arm convertible, which comes handy while sewing cuffs and sleeves. The color coded threading system makes threading very easy. The stitch width can be adjusted between 3mm-7mm. The presser foot pressure can also be adjusted.
Brother DZ1234 has a differential feed ratio of 0.7 to 2.0 which provides consistent stitch quality on all kinds of fabrics. You can use standard sewing needles on this serger. It comes with a bunch of accessories as well. Brother claims that the bonus accessories are worth $75.

Usability
The ease of use is something that really impressed me. You will feel comfortable using this serger, even if you haven’t used a serger before. Threading this machine is a walk in the park, you just need to follow the marked instructions. The biggest advantage of Brother DZ1234 is that it uses standard sewing needles. It is a real money saver, you don’t need to spend money on special needles. The overlocking function is excellent. It sew through denim, fleece, swim suit and stretch fabric equally well. The stitch quality is of the highest standard.
Another good feature is that you can easily disengage the fabric cutting knives and you can easily move the upper knife out of the way, if you don’t want to trim the fabric. You can easily engage them back in position when needed. It is a quieter machine, when compared to others in the same price range.
Limitations
I had a hard time finding a limitation. The starter thread that comes with this machine is not that great, you will be better of buying some high quality threads.

Brother Designio Series DZ1234 Serger is a high quality serger. Most people compare Designio Series DZ1234 with Brother 1034D serger. Both are similar machines. Designio machine costs few dollars more. In most cases, it would a toss up between the two. Both have the same features except that Designio Series DZ1234 comes with more bonus accessories (worth $75, that is what Brother says) and has a sophisticated look.
