There is a huge difference between the features of Brother XR1300 and CS6000i. But the discounted price of refurbished XR1300 machines make it worth comparing.
Brother XR1300 and CS6000i are not comparable when you consider the prices. The thing that makes these two machines comparable is the price of refurbished XR1300. Refurbished XR1300 and new CS6000i cost almost the same. Since the prices are this close, a side by side comparison is always possible. There is no question on which one is more advanced. XR1300 is way more advanced than CS6000i. But what makes CS6000i a decent competitor is its popularity. It is the ‘King of Best Sellers’. It has been a best seller ever since it was released.
Brother XR1300 vs CS6000i Features Comparison
There is quite a bit of difference between the two. Brother CS6000i is a beginners sewing machine, XR1300 on the other hand qualifies as an intermediate sewing machine when you consider the features. First, let us have a look at the areas of differences.
Built-in Stitches : XR1300 is a clear winner with 130 built-in stitches which includes 8 one-step buttonholes. CS6000i has 60 built-in stitches with 7 one-step buttonholes. If you plan to sew a lot of fancy stuffs, XR1300 will be a better option.
Thread Cutter : XR1300 features an automatic thread cutter whereas CS6000i comes with a manual one. This is one feature that doesn’t make a huge difference but still is a good luxury to have.
Programmable Needle Up/Down : A must have feature for quilters. XR1300 has it and CS6000i doesn’t. A bummer for sure.
Built-in Quilting Stitches : XR1300 comes with some quilting stitches. CS6000i has none. Again another thing that quilters will always look for. XR1300 comes with an included quilting feet but for CS6000i, it is an additional purchase.
Sewing Machine Weight : The weight of both machines are almost the same. Technically speaking, Brother CS6000i is .2 lbs lighter than XR1300. You won’t notice it I swear.
Hard Cover : CS6000i scores here as it comes with one. XR1300 doesn’t have a cover.
Above said are the areas where these two machines differ. Now let us have a side by side comparison of all the features. For your convenience, the differences are marked out in red color.

Brother XR1300 vs CS6000i Performance Comparison
Performance wise, there is nothing to choose between the two. Probably you can say that XR1300 performs slightly better with heavy duty fabrics. Since XR1300 is an intermediate sewing machine, one must expect it to be easier to use. It doesn’t mean that CS6000i is inferior to XR1300. The number of people who buy CS6000i is simply unbelievable. It sure is a beginners favorite.
Verdict
It is very clear that XR1300 is much more advanced than CS6000i, but there is a problem. New XR1300 machines are not abundant, in most cases you will only get a refurbished machine. To be honest, I really don’t trust refurbished machines even if they are available at heavy discounts. A refurbished machine is one that had some issue when it came out of the factory, that is the reason why it went back to the factory. Who can guarantee that the issue won’t pop up again? Get it only if it is a completely new machine.
A new CS6000i will be much much better than a refurbished XR1300. Brother CS6000i is an excellent beginners machine and that is the reason why it features in our list of ‘Machines You Can Buy With Your Eyes Shut’. There are only 5 sewing machines in that list and this is one.
If you want the features of XR1300, you can consider Brother XR9500PRW as an alternative. It is voted as the ‘Best Sewing Machine For The Money – Under $200’. But you need to spend few extra dollars than what you spend for Brother CS6000i. It is a quality machine nevertheless.
