Singer Futura XL-580 Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : MODERATE

This an advanced embroidery and sewing machine from Singer. So you must expect it to be much more expensive than the XL-400 or the XL-550, which are kind of beginners machines. It comes with 215 built-in sewing stitches and 250 built-in embroidery designs. The sewing stitches also include 6 one-step buttonholes and 1 endless-buttonhole.  There are 50 endless embroidery designs to add creativity to your work. 20 fonts for monogramming is included as well. The selling point of Singer XL-580 is the 6.75″ x 4″ endless hoop which allows you to create border designs on fashion, tablecloths etc. You can choose from the 50 endless designs and you can decide how close the designs should be, using the Futura software.

This machine comes with 3 embroidery hoops 10″x6″, 4″x4″ and the 6.75″ x 4″ endless hoop. Even though there is an LCD screen provided for basic editing, all advanced embroidery editing is done on the PC/laptop with the help of Futura software. Three softwares are included in the box. You will get Basic software, AutoPunch and HyperFont Advanced Editing software. Singer XL-580 comes with swift smart threading system, which is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Threading is not different from what you get on other sewing machines.

Singer XL-580 features an easy to use drop-in bobbin system. Another advantage is the knee lifter which allows you to raise and lower the presser foot without using your hands. The machine also features an automatic needle threader and thread cutter. Programmable needle up/down feature comes handy while pivoting. There is a drop feed option for free-motion quilting. The extra high presser foot lifter provides extra clearance for bulky fabrics.
