Brother LS2000 Review

Brother LS2000 ReviewSewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : LOW

Brother LS2000 is a basic mechanical sewing machine designed for beginners. The machine has a total of 20 stitch functions. Stitch selection is done using a dial. Bobbin is front-loading type which is not really ideal for beginners as you need to remove the storage compartment every time you want to change the bobbin. A drop-in bobbin would have made things a lot easier. The machine is free arm capable. An accessory storage compartment is built-in. The machine is pretty lightweight at just 13 pounds. Brother LS2000 comes with 25 year limited warranty. Brother LS2000 is equipped with automatic bobbin winding. 3 needle positions are available on the machine.

Usability

Brother LS2000 looks beautiful with those floral patterns going across. Even through limited features, the stitch quality is pretty decent. It can do some good looking zig zag and straight stitches. Brother LS2000 is meant to be used for basic sewing tasks only. It won’t be able to sew multiple layers of heavy duty fabrics like denim. The machine is easy to use once you understand what it is meant for. It is easy to thread and wind the bobbin. The thread tension needs to be adjusted manually.

Limitations

Feature wise, Brother LS2000 is not the most appealing beginners machine out there. It lacks an automatic needle threader which is sewing’s best time saver.

There is no drop feed dog option to do free-motion sewing. The buttonhole stitch is not that great either.

Pros

  • Decent stitch quality

Cons

  • No automatic needle threader
  • No drop-in bobbin
  • Not good with multiple layers

Is It Worth Buying ?

Even though I am satisfied with the stitch quality of Brother LS2000, I am not really impressed with the features on offer. Especially when you can get far more advanced Brother machines at more or less the same price. The model I am taking about is Brother XL2600I. You can call it the ‘King of Inexpensive Sewing Machines’. It is that good a machine. You will get 25 built-in stitches, drop-in bobbin, 1-step buttonhole and more. The most appealing factor is its price. That is the reason why it sells like hotcakes in US. It is the most budget friendly sewing machine I have ever come across.
