Juki MO-51E Review
Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH
MO-51E is an entry level 3/4 thread serger. It is an economic serger alright, but what we want to know is, how well it performs. The automatic lower looper makes threading easy. You can switch to rolled hemming by engaging a lever, thanks to the automatic rolled hemming feature.
The stitch length is adjustable between 1-4mm, this can be done by turning a knob on the right hand side of the serger. Retractable upper knife makes threading easier. The lower knife can also be adjusted using a dial. Lay-in threading system suits beginners. The color coded threading diagram is easy to follow.
Adjustable differential feed offers a ratio of 0.8 to 2.0 which can handle all fabric types. It can be adjusted with the help of a dial. It has a powerful motor that can deliver 1300 stitches/minute. Juki MO-51E can sew
- 4 thread overlock
- 3 thread narrow overlock
- Frill 3 thread rolled hem with differential feed
- 3 thread Flatlock
- 3 thread overlock
- 3 thread rolled hem
The overlock width is left needle 6mm, right needle 6mm and 2mm roll hem.
Juki MO-51E comes with an LED work light which illuminates the work space quite well. A finger guard is provided for safety as well. It has an on board storage compartment and a waste collector.
Usability
Juki MO-51E has everything that a beginner needs. The manual has all the instructions, diagrams and videos. The tension is almost perfect, even the adjustment is very easy. This is an easy machine to thread, which is a huge relief for beginners. The serger operates smoothly and quietly. The stitch quality is very good. Seams have professional finish and are strong. The edges are nice and clean. Much needed consistency is there. However this serger is not really ideal for 4 plus layers of fabrics. It seems to struggle with multiple layers. The machine is reasonably heavy, weighing at 16.31 pounds.
Limitations
Juki MO-51E is not that good with multiple layers of fabrics.
Pros
- Beginner friendly
- Easy to thread
- Consistent stitch quality
- Quiet
Cons
- Not for multiple layers
