Lodge has been making cast iron cookware sets since 1896. So they should know what they are doing.Lodge cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned with oil but it doesn’t mean that it is non-stick. You still have to add some oil. However, it will become non-stick with prolonged use, it is way better than other cast iron skillets that come pre-seasoned (the food really doesn’t stick that much, almost perfect). The more you use it, the more non-stick it becomes. The skillets retain heat pretty well, it is advised to use pot holders as the handles may become hot. You can hang the pot with the same handle.
The pimple like dots on the lid prevents the evaporated water from flowing down through the sides, instead they drip off the dots, which is a very nice feature. The evenness of heat provided by Lodge cast iron skillets is fantastic. Surfaces of some skillets are quite rough, it is not a machined surface, but it smooths out with use. It isn’t much of an issue.
Cleaning And Care
Cleaning and care for Lodge 5-Piece Cast Iron Cookware Set is pretty easy. You just need to wipe it with a towel or coffee filter after use. However if you want to wash it, you can clean the pot using a brush or a scrubber and the wash it with hot water. You must dry the pot after cleaning and rub a thin layer of oil all over the pot. Remember, this one should not be cleaned with a dishwasher, that will be an absolute disaster.
Cooking
You can use the shallow skillet for frying eggs (eggs generally taste better when they come of cast iron), hash browns, fish etc etc. Everything browns beautifully with this cast iron cookware set.
