Singer 7465 Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : MODERATE

7465 is an electronic sewing machine. This is not an overly popular sewing machine model in US, but it has its name in countries like UK. It comes with 50 built-in stitches including 2 one-step buttonholes. An LCD screen is provided for stitch selection. Direct stitch selection buttons are provided for commonly used 6 stitches. Stitch length and width are automatically set for optimal results, however you can override them any time for customization. The maximum stitch width is 7mm. Locking stitch function is provided for reinforcing the end of stitches. This can be engaged with just the push of a button. Automatic reverse button is also provided in an easily accessible place.

Singer 7465 is capable of twin needle sewing with just the touch of a button. 13 needle positions are available on this machine. The machine has a good motor inside to power it. The motor is capable of delivering 750 stitches/min, which brings it on par with most of its competitors. The automatic needle threader makes threading effortless. Automatic tension is provided for consistent stitch quality. Automatic presser foot pressure control lets you sew different types of fabrics with little adjustment. Drop-in bobbin makes it easy for beginners.

The extra high presser foot lifter is really handy while sewing multiple layers of fabric. 2 LEDs illuminate the work space. Box feed along with 6 segment feed ensures perfect feeding. Drop feed option is provided for doing free-motion sewing. An on-board accessory storage compartment is also provided. The stitch number guide is provided at the bottom of the machine. A manual thread cutter is available at the side of the machine.

Usability

Do not mistake Singer 7465 as a computerized sewing machine. It is just an electronic sewing machine, which means it misses out on the speed control slider, start/stop button, programmable needle up/down etc. Stitch selection is pretty easy, there is nothing confusing about it. The machine is reasonably quiet while operating. A beginner will find no difficulty in understanding the controls and functions. The machine does a very good job with multiple layers of denim as well.

Limitations

At high speeds, the machine seems to be a little bit unsettled. Probably it has something to do with the lightweight plastic parts.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Good quality stitches
  • Quiet operation

Cons

  • Slightly unstable at high speeds

Is It Worth Buying ?

The price makes all the difference here. If you look at Singer 7465 alone, it is a very good sewing machine. Even then you can’t keep your eyes on it all the time because there is a better model sitting right next to it, with even better features. The machine I am talking about is the Singer 7258, which is by far the best beginners sewing machine rolled out by Singer in US. 7258 is a computerized sewing machine with 100 built-in stitches, programmable needle up/down, sewing speed control slider and start/stop button. The stitch quality of this machine is excellent. So if the price difference between Singer 7465 and 7258 is less than $20, then you will be better of going with 7258. It is that good a machine.
