Price is the only concern with Janome Decor DC2011. It oozes quality, but it is a beginners machine and its price is scary. If money is not a constraint for you, definitely consider this sewing machine.

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

Janome Decor DC2011 is a beautiful looking beginners sewing machine. One thing you can always expect from Janome is the build quality. There are no cheap looking parts on this sewing machine. It comes with 20 year limited warranty.

The 50 built-in stitches on Janome Decor DC2011 include Lock-O-Matic, heirloom, decorative, darning, overcasting and three 1-step automatic buttonholes. The automatic needle threader saves you from eye strain. You can adjust stitch width and length with just the touch of a button. You can do free arm sewing once you remove the storage compartment. All the adjustments can be viewed on the LCD screen.

Janome Decor DC2011 comes with an auto-declutch bobbin winder. There is also a button for reverse stitching. It has needle up/down button as well. The auto-lock button enables you to sew a combination of decorative stitches. One nice feature I really liked about this sewing machine is the warning system. The machine will warn you with beeps or error codes when settings are not right. You can adjust the sewing speed using the speed control slider. It has a thread cutter as well.

Janome Decor DC2011 comes with an included hard case, walking foot and 1/4″ foot.

Usability

Setting up this sewing machine was very easy.  The user manual is detailed and easy to understand. The feed system on Janome Decor DC2011 is fantastic, it provides precise and perfect feeding. The feed system used on this machine is Janome SFS (Superior Feed System). The machine is slightly heavier than I expected. You can adjust the needle position in 3 ways, left, right and center.  It has a presser foot leveling button which comes handy while dealing with thicker fabrics.

Straight stitches on Janome Decor DC2011 are very impressive. It comes out perfectly straight without touching the fabric once. The lock stitch function is capable of providing a professional finish to your projects. It operates quietly and smoothly.

Limitations

The presser foot pressure cannot be adjusted, it may take some time to get used to. It doesn’t have a lot of built-in stitches for the price.

Pros

  • Sturdy
  • Easy to use
  • Needle up/down
  • Locking stitch function
  • High quality stitches

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Less number of built-in stitches

Overall, Janome Decor DC2011 is a solid, sturdy workhorse, but it is still a beginners machine and to spend that much amount of money for a beginners machine doesn’t appeal to me. Even though this sewing machine has some nice little features that you won’t find on other machines, it is a little too expensive for me (even if you consider the price of accessories that are included). If you are a beginner you will be better of trying something like Brother CS6000i which you can get for half the price.

If you are an advanced user, you can try Brother SE400 which has quite a lot of features and costs few dollars less than Janome Decor DC2011. Both Brother SE400 and Brother CS6000i are listed in Sewing Machine Reviews list of ‘Machines You Can Buy With Your Eyes Shut’. So quality will never be an issue for you.

Still I am confused where to put this sewing machine, it is a quality machine if you take price out of the equation. Take price out of the equation, I will recommend Janome Decor DC2011 all day.
