Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

Janome HD3000 is a heavy-duty sewing machine. All working parts are made of metal (that’s what manufacturers say, we will get to that later on), which makes it sturdy and durable. This model is an upgrade from Janome HD1000 which we reviewed before. This one comes with 4 additional built-in stitches than HD1000. HD3000 comes with 18 built-in stitches and a 1-step buttonhole. Some people may consider it costly, especially beginners.

Janome HD3000 comes with an included hardcover. It has free arm capability. The top cover contains storage area for all your feets. Stitch length and width can be adjusted. It also has a reverse button. It comes with top drop-in bobbin. It has automatic needle threader as well. Extra high presser foot lift makes working with thick fabrics quite easy. The machine comes with rolled hem foot along with a lot of other accessories. You won’t get included rolled hem foot with any brand other than Janome.

You can select stitches using the stitch selector dial on the side of the sewing machine. The stitch length and width can be adjusted using the sliders. You can adjust the tension by turning the dial provided under the top cover. Janome HD3000 has a built-in thread cutter as well.

User Manual

User manual of Janome HD3000 comes in two languages English and Spanish. It is very detailed and easy to read.

Usability

Janome HD3000 operates smoothly and quietly.  It really sews some fantastic straight stitches. It works equally well for quilters. The buttonhole stitching is something I really loved about this machine. You just need to fit the button on to the buttonhole foot and the machine sews perfect buttonholes. The size of the buttonholes are automatically set for you. Changing feet on this machine is quick and easy.

You can change Janome HD3000 into a serger using the serger foot. The leveling foot functionality comes really handy when you sew thick fabrics. You can easily adjust the presser foot pressure on this machine. There is no difference in sewing thin and thick fabrics, it works equally well on both type of fabrics. This is a machine for real heavy stuffs. Hard leather and denim is a walk in the park for this machine. Really impressed with the quality of stitches.

Limitations

The work lights are pretty dim, I really hate them. Also it has just 18 built-in stitches.

Pros

  • Automatic needle threader
  • Perfect straight stitches
  • Sturdy, heavy

Cons

  • Dim work light
  • The price and the number of built-in stitches do not add up

Overall, if you are not worried about the number of built-in stitches and those fancy computerized operations and you love a sturdy, heavy-duty, workhorse Janome HD3000 will be a good choice. It is the heaviest of all heavy duty machines, so it is built to last. It has all the basic stitches you want and a couple of fancy ones. If you are looking for an inexpensive version of this sewing machine, you may have a look at the Janome HD1000. It comes at almost half the price of HD3000, you may read the comparison.
