Juki HZL-K65 is a good beginners sewing machine. But it is priced way too high for pretty basic features. Not highly recommended.

  • Automatic needle threader
  • Start/Stop button
  • Locking stitches

Juki HZL-K65 Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : LOW

Juki HZL-K65 is a computer controlled sewing machine. You can use the foot controller if you want. It comes with a Start/Stop button for sewing. The color of the Start/Stop button indicates whether the machine is ready to use or not. Green color means the machine is ready to sew, red means it is not ready to sew and orange means the machine is in bobbin winding condition. It comes with 20 built-in stitches and an automatic needle threader.

The speed with which you sew on Juki HZL-K65 can be easily adjusted using the speed control slider. The machine sews reverse stitch when you press the reverse button. When a particular stitch is selected, the machine automatically sets the standard stitch length and width, which can be manually adjusted using the push buttons. A thread tension dial is provided to adjust the tension.

The work light LED is not that great though, you will have to find some extra lighting to sew in the dark. You can do free arm sewing by removing the storage compartment. It has a drop-in bobbin system. Juki HZL-K65 also has two lock-stitch options to secure stitches. It comes with 5 year manufacturer’s warranty.

Usability

The stitch quality of Juki HZL-K65 is very good with little skipping or puckering. The automatic needle threader is slightly tricky at least for the first few attempts. It sews well through multiple layers of denim and does a very good job with silk. It comes with a well written user manual and instructional DVD. It operates quietly as well. The overall quality of this sewing machine is pretty acceptable.

Limitations

Juki HZL-K65 doesn’t have an LCD display to view the settings. It is a shame that a machine of this price doesn’t have an LCD display. Even machines that cost $150 come with LCD display nowadays. It is also over priced for the features on offer. It doesn’t have needle up/down or extra-high presser foot lifter and so on.

Pros

  • Even stitches

Cons

  • Highly priced for very few features
  • No LCD display
  • Pretty basic, nothing extra

Verdict

In my opinion, Juki HZL-K65 is a good basic sewing machine, but it is not a great one. It may not be a good idea to invest on this machine. It lacks features for the price. It has very little features when compared to machines like Brother CS6000i which costs a lot lesser than this one. It has 60 built-in stitches, LCD display, automatic needle threader and much more. Moreover, it is the best seller among beginners sewing machines in U.S and it also features among the list of ‘Machines You Can Buy With Your Eyes Shut’.
