Singer Quikfix Mend Machine Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : MODERATE

Singer Quikfix is a basic sewing machine for some quick mending and hemming works. It has 8 built-in stitches, which can be selected using a dial. It has a lever for reverse sewing. The sewing speed can be set to low or high, which is a nice feature in a low cost machine. You can operate the machine with foot controller also. There is a sewing light as well, which is not that great by any means. You can do free arm sewing on this machine.

Singer Quikfix comes with a top-load drop-in bobbin system which really surprised me. Normally you don’t get drop-in bobbins on such low cost sewing machines. It also features a thread cutter and an automatic bobbin winder. This machine can be operated using batteries or by plugging it in AC power outlet. AC operation is needed when you want to use the foot pedal. If you want to use the speed control, you must operate it in batteries. It uses 4 AA batteries.Singer Quikfix has a small drawer storage compartment for storing your accessories. The machine is very light, it weighs just 1.5 pounds.

Usability

I am very much impressed with all the features of Singer Quikfix. Some of them really surprised me as you normally don’t see them on such a low cost machine.Amidst all those features, this machine looks cheap. The parts seem to be made of low quality plastic, I guess that is where Singer saved money. This machine comes pre-threaded but you may run into some threading and jamming issues while using this one. I have mixed feelings about this machine, it works like a charm once and it frustrates me like hell the next time. It is very hard to draw a conclusion for a sewing machine that provides such inconsistent results.

Pros

  • Very low price
  • AC and battery operation
  • Portable
  • Lot of good features for the price

Cons

  • Made of cheap plastic
  • Threading and jamming issues

Verdict

For the price,  Singer Quikfix Mend Machine seems to be a good choice. The low price is the selling point of this machine. But I really can’t guarantee 100% satisfaction with this machine. You are bound to run into some trouble at some stage for sure. But still, you will take that for the price I guess. If you really want to be absolutely sure about the quality and performance of a machine, you will be better of trying some models like Janome Sew Mini or Brother LS2125i. I prefer Brother LS2125i more as it is a quality machine with more features and it ranks 4th in the list of ‘Top 10 Sewing Machines Under $200″ list published by Sewing Machine Reviews.
