Singer 14SH764 Review
Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH
14SH764 is one of the popular serger models sold in US. Affordability is a big contributing factor in its success. At this price you normally get 3-4 thread sergers from other manufacturers, but Singer has a couple of models with 2-3-4 thread capability at a low price range. 14SH764 is a 2-3-4 thread serger and provides 6 different stitch types. 4 built-in rolled hems are provided for more versatility. It has differential feed, which obviously is not a surprise feature. Differential feed ensures consistent stitch quality across different types of fabrics. Moveable upper knife prevents the knife from trimming while sewing.
Singer 14SH764 has a real powerful motor capable of delivering 1,300 stitches/min, which can sew projects pretty fast. You are literally cutting down your sewing time into half with a serger like this. The color-coded, lay-in threading system makes threading effortless. Threading diagram is printed on the machine itself, you don’t need to look elsewhere. The stitch length can be easily adjusted by turning the knob. Remove the flatbed and you can do free arm sewing as well.

The extra-high presser foot lifter allows more clearance to work with multiple layers of fabrics. Adjustable tension is essential especially when you are sewing different types of fabrics. The serger comes with 25 year limited warranty.
2-3-4 serging capability at this price is definitely worth having a look. The machine is heavy enough to prevent any kind of instability but that doesn’t hinder its portability. The built-in carry handle makes it even better. Threading will be effortless if you follow the instructions correctly. The stitch quality is consistent. Overlocking is as good as it can get. The fabric is cut of beautifully. If you haven’t owned a serger before, you might find it slightly difficult to adjust with the fast sewing speed of Singer 14SH764.
The machine is slightly louder. Majority of negative feedback received by this serger is not because of machine error but due to user error. Most common complaint is regarding threading, if you can follow the instructions correctly, I don’t see any reason to be frustrated. It is easy and effortless. Those who had trouble must be those who did not have enough patience to go through the directions and ended up threading in the wrong way.
- Quality stitches
- Variety of stitch options
- Easy to use
- Slightly noisy
Is It Worth Buying ?
Singer 14SH764 is not a machine for those who want to start serging away straight out of the box. You need to spend some time reading the manual and understanding the instructions. Once you do that part right, it is a joy ride ever after. The price is very reasonable and I don’t mind spending some money for this machine.
