Singer 4411 Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

Ever wished for a heavy duty sewing machine that is affordable and of decent quality ? Singer 4411 is the answer. But don’t be overjoyed as you are still dealing with a low cost sewing machine. So don’t expect it to be a 100% heavy duty model which is capable of running through 10 plus layers of denim. Singer 4411 is only a beginners heavy duty sewing machine. It is equipped with all the features that a beginner needs. The machine comes with 11 built-in stitches (denoted by the last two digits in the model number) including 6 Basic Stitches, 4 Decorative Stitches and a 4-step buttonhole. There are 2 more variants of this sewing machine namely 4423 and 4432 with 23 stitches and 32 stitches respectively. The only difference is in the number of built-in stitches, all other features are identical.

Coming back to 4411. The machine is equipped with a powerful motor capable of delivering 1,100 stitches per minute. Now, this motor is really powerful. To know that, check the SPMs of other sewing machines in the price range (be it Brother or any other brand), the maximum you will get is 850 stitches per minute. So you can clearly say that the motor of Singer 4411 is way more powerful than its competitors. The extra power helps the machine to sew through heavy duty fabrics. The machine comes with top drop-in bobbin with clear cover, so that you can always keep an eye on the thread supply.

The extra high presser foot lifter is always handy while sewing multiple layers of fabrics. Cuffs and collar can be accessed by converting the machine into free arm. An on board storage space is provided for storing away the accessories. The stitch selection is done using dials. Stitch width and length are also adjustable. For inserting zippers or cording, you can make use of the 3 needle positions available on the machine. Reverse lever is provided for sewing in reverse and for reinforcing stitches. Presser foot pressure can be manually adjusted. The machine has 25 year limited warranty cover.

Other features include

  • Heavy duty metal frame
  • Stainless steel bed plate
  • Snap-on presser feet
  • Drop feed for free motion

Usability

Singer 4411 weighs just 14.5 pounds, it is good and bad at the same time. The good is that you can easily carry it, the bad is that all parts are not metal, there is plastic for sure (especially in the exterior parts). The overall build quality is pretty good for the price. The thing that I am impressed the most is the stitch quality and power. The stitch quality is excellent and the machine can easily go through 8 layers of denim (8 plus layers is not highly recommended as the machine is not really designed to handle such stuffs). The machine is easy to thread as well (if you have any doubt, watch some YouTube videos, the user manual is not that great).

Limitations

4-step buttonhole is not really ideal for beginners. Singer could have included a much more easy to use 1-step buttonhole.

User manual needs improvement. Sometimes you kinda get lost in between instructions.

Pros

  • Quite powerful
  • Good stitch quality
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Poor user manual
  • No 1-step buttonhole

Is It worth Buying ?

For the price, you simply can’t get a better heavy duty sewing machine in US. From the point of view of a beginner, it ticks all the boxes except for the buttonhole stitch. I think you can overlook that as it is very inexpensive. Its performance with multiple layers of denim is not that bad either. As an overall package, Singer 4411 is a good beginner machine to consider.
