Janome MyLock 634D Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

MyLock 634D is a 2,3 or 4 thread overlock machine. It has 2 needles. The machine is slightly expensive but it offers quality worth every cent. It has color-coded thread guides for easy threading. Self threading lower looper is a premium feature offered on this machine. A lever guides the thread, making threading effortless. You can quickly covert to rolled hem without changing the needle plate (this is another handy feature).

MyLock 634D comes with differential feed mechanism which prevents unnecessary waving, puckering or fluting. It also has lay-in tension. Other features are

  • 0.5 – 2.2 differential feed ratio
  • Easy upper knife release
  • Adjustable cutting width: 3.1 – 5.1mm
  • Front and back needle guard
  • Retractable upper knife

Usability

Janome MyLock 634D is very user-friendly. It is very easy to thread or re-thread (the machine comes pre-threaded). It has to be one of the easiest sergers to re-thread (if thread is not broke), just tie the new thread to the old one and it runs through smoothly. Issues like thread breaking or jamming has never been observed (but if you do, re-threading will take some time). I expected this to be louder, but it is quieter than what I expected (a welcome feature for sure). The machine works exceptionally well with thick fabrics, which is something that I always look for in a serger. The tension is perfect right from the factory itself. The stitch quality is very impressive. The build quality is very good (which you normally expect from Janome).

Limitations

It might be difficult to thread the machine from scratch. You must read the user manual before your first attempt. You would be better of watching some YouTube videos as this machine doesn’t come with an included DVD.

Pros

  • Differential feed
  • Good on thick fabrics
  • Excellent stitch quality
  • Easy to use
  • Easy rolled hem changeover

Cons

  • Difficult to re-thread after thread break

Is It Worth Buying ?

Some might consider MyLock 634D as a bit expensive. In my opinion, the price is not that bad considering the quality on offer. The ability of this machine to handle different fabrics of varying thickness is its biggest plus point. Overall, it is a very good serger to consider, especially if you own a sewing business.
