SmartCare SC-08 Review
SmartCare SC-08 is a basic mini sewing machine. It costs well under $50 and it can be a useful tool for basic sewing tasks. However, we need to make sure that it has some decent quality, otherwise you will be wasting your hard earned money for nothing. Honestly, this is the biggest issue with mini sewing machines. They may be inexpensive, but they can be of low quality as well. Let us see how SmartCare SC-08 goes.
SmartCare SC-08 is a double stitch machine. It can be run at 2 speeds, high and low. The speed setting button is provided right in front of the machine. Portability is something that you will always look for in a mini sewing machine and yes SC-08 is portable. 9 x 8.2 x 5.2 inches in dimension and under 2 pounds weight makes it extremely portable and easy to store away.
The machine comes pre-threaded and you can use standard spool of thread with it. It also comes with 4 metal bobbins with thread as well. SmartCare SC-08 can be operated with 4AA batteries, which needs to be purchased separately. You can use it on AC current, but the adapter is not included in the box. The machine comes with an extra needle and a threader as well.
SmartCare SC-08 is a compact machine, you will love it for its size and portability. You can take it anywhere. As far as stitches are concerned, it is kind of okay. You can’t expect the stitch quality of a $150 sewing machine from this one. You get what you pay for. You can sew lightweight fabric on this machine reasonably well, but it is a big no for thick fabrics like denim. This machine is not designed for thick fabrics and the light weight means the machine will be unstable while sewing such fabrics.
SmartCare SC-08 is not a machine for an experienced sewer. Don’t expect it do things that a regular sewing machine does.
Is It Worth Buying?
If you are looking for a mini sewing machine for your kid, SmartCare SC-08 will be a good choice. It will get you started with the art of sewing. That’s it. Don’t expect anything more. It will also work if you want to sew while traveling. If you are really serious about sewing, you should go for a regular sewing machine.
