Janome MC-6300P Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

Janome MC-6300P is a technically sound sewing machine designed for professionals who take sewing pretty seriously. It doesn’t come with a lot of bells and whistles but it is intended for one specific job, that is high quality sewing. Even Janome admits that this machine doesn’t have a lot of decorative stitches and buttonholes than other machines of the same category. One thing to be noted is that, this machine is a heavy-duty model. It comes with heavy-duty bed and frame (all is metal). The metal body makes it very stable while sewing at high speeds.

Janome MC-6300P has top drop-in bobbin system, which is pretty much the standard nowadays. The presser foot pressure can be adjusted. It features an automatic needle threader as well. It comes with a large spool stand. One thing I really liked about this machine is, the bobbin winder has a separate motor. What this means is that, you can wind the bobbin even when you are sewing something. It is more like the dual core processors where you can do two separate tasks at the same time without stopping the other. The twin needle guard button on this machine will prevent you from selecting a stitch which you can’t sew with a twin needle, another nice feature.Separate buttons are provided for adjusting the stitch length and width. This machine is capable of sewing at a speed of 1000 stitches/minute straight and 700 stitches/minute zigzag.

Talking about the stitches on Janome MC-6300P. This machine comes with 66 built-in stitches including 4 one-step buttonholes. It provides a sewing space of 9″. If you look at the machine, you will see a lot of buttons and controls. There is a lever for lowering the feed dogs. This machine comes with a knee lifter as well. There are other buttons for locking stitch, needle up/down, automatic thread cutting and speed control. The thread tension dial is provided right in front of the machine. This machine comes with an extension table as well. In addition to this, you will also get a lot of accessories.

Other features of Janome MC-6300P are

  • Visible pressure gauge
  • Extra-high presser foot lift
  • Sewing light

Usability

The user manual that comes with this machine is very easy to read and understand. Setting up is fairly simple and you can start sewing in a few minutes.

One thing I really love this machine for is the build quality and stunning looks. Yes, it is the most beautiful heavy-duty machine I have ever seen. Janome makes some stunning heavy-duty machines, the last one I reviewed was Janome HD3000, which was a quality one as well. The selection buttons on Janome MC-6300P are easy to understand. The speed control slider offers very good control over the sewing speeds. So precision has never been an issue while operating without the foot pedal. Moreover, it has a very strong motor which is capable of delivering 1000 stitches/minute.

Janome MC-6300P sews like a dream. You will love this machine if you are a quilter. It has everything that a quilter needs, be it the automatic thread cutter, programmable needle up/down, knee lift, large throat space and different types of feet. The larger throat space makes a huge difference for quilters, as you fight less with the fabric for moving it around. Being heavy-duty, adds to the stability quite a bit. It is a beast literally.

Even though this machine is fast, it doesn’t create that much of noise. It is relatively quite. This is a heavy machine, probably one of the heaviest machines reviewed by Sewing Machine Reviews. You expect this machine to be heavy as it is all metal.

Limitations

One thing I wasn’t impressed with this machine is its sewing light. It is not great, poor in fact. You will need an extra lighting to work in the dark. Another point is, if you want do free motion quilting, you will have to use a special purpose bobbin holder called ‘Blue Dot’ which is not included in the box. It costs around $20. It does not do free arm as well.

Pros

  • Heavy-duty construction
  • High class performance
  • Strong motor
  • Lot of features
  • Perfect for quilters

Cons

  • Poor sewing light
  • No free arm

Verdict

Overall, highly impressed with the quality and performance of Janome MC-6300P. I can clearly say that this is one of the best machines I have reviewed. The easy of use and high quality performance provided by this machine justifies its price tag. It is a perfect machine for quilters. Most people value this machine high. I know 3 people who own this machine and all of them are satisfied with its performance and quality. To be honest, I have become a fan of this machine.
