Janome DC2013 Review

Sewing Machine Reviews Recommendation Level : HIGH

DC2013 is a computerized sewing machine released by Janome in the year 2013. Every year Janome releases a ‘Decor’ sewing machine with the year as model number. It has been a pattern since 2010. All the machines are essentially the same with change in color. Janome DC2013 like other Decor machines, comes with 50 built-in stitches which include 24 Heirloom Stitches, 6 Satin Decorative Stitches and 3 one-step buttonholes. It comes with Janome’s unique Superior Feed System to maintain consistent stitch quality. Memorized needle up/down is provided. It has an auto-declutch bobbin winder. You can convert this machine to free arm. Speed control slider can be used to control the sewing speed. It has an automatic needle threader as well. Reverse stitch and auto-lock buttons are nicely placed in front. Janome DC2013 has drop feed dog capability as well. It comes with a hard case and has a 25 year limited warranty.

Usability

Janome DC2013 does a very good job with thick layers of fabric. It sews through pretty thick layers of denim and fleece with ease. The presser foot adjusts quite well according to the fabric thickness. The SFS feed system makes a huge difference while sewing thick fabrics. The SFS system feeds the fabric nicely without any jams. The machine is much more solid than machines from other brands in the price category. The machine weighs 22.2 pounds which is a clear indication that most parts are metal. The automatic needle threader on this machine is fantastic. I have seen some pretty tricky needle threaders on some machines, not this one. The machine is very easy to set up. Bobbin winding and threading is a breeze.

The halogen light provided on this machine is bright enough to see your project. There were complaints about the halogen light being dim on some other Janome machines, not this one for sure. The tension seems absolutely perfect out of the box. The quality of stitches are quite consistent. The user manual is very detailed about all instructions. Janome DC2013 is a machine that is very easy to use. There is nothing complicated about this machine. All controls and buttons are placed in such a way that they are very easy to reach.

Janome DC2013 doesn’t have a lot of crazy features. It doesn’t have 200 odd built-in stitches or an automatic thread cutter. Janome compromised on features for pure quality. If you ask me to define DC2013 in three words, I would say solid, quality and expensive.

Limitations

The price is slightly on the higher side. Other than that, I had a hard time finding a drawback of this machine.

Pros

  • Sturdy
  • Excellent feeding system
  • Fantastic on thick fabrics, doesn’t struggle at all
  • Durable

Cons

  • Expensive

Is It Worth Buying ?

Janome DC2013 is a do-everything kind of a machine. It has all the features required by an average sewer. More important is the fact that it is a quality sewing machine capable of sewing through anything that you throw at it. It is a machine with very little complaints. In fact it has the highest rating for a beginners machine I have ever seen. You will never regret buying this machine for sure. If you consider this as expensive, you can have a look at Janome DC2012 which is few dollars cheaper. Both the machines are exactly the same, except for the color scheme. It comes in green color.
